Speech Language Pathologist
Kaia graduated from Western Carolina University in 2022 with her Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and continued her education at Western Carolina University, earning her Master of Speech-Language Pathology in 2024. Her connection to Propel began long before becoming a Speech-Language Pathologist. Since the age of 15, Kaia has been a part of the Propel family, beginning with afternoon cleaning and assisting with various administrative tasks throughout high school and college. After graduating as an SLP in 2024, she was excited to continue growing with an organization that has been such an important part of her life for many years. Today, in addition to providing speech and language therapy, Kaia enjoys contributing to the growth of the clinic and supporting the Propel team in her leadership role.
Kaia became a Speech-Language Pathologist because of the importance she places on communication and the opportunity to watch her patients succeed, reach their goals, and gain greater independence. She finds purpose and fulfillment in helping children and families in any way she can and values the opportunity to support families through both exciting milestones and challenging seasons. Kaia is passionate about making a meaningful impact in the lives of the children and families she serves. She especially enjoys providing augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) interventions and helping children find functional ways to communicate their wants, needs, thoughts, and personalities. While AAC is a particular area of interest, Kaia loves the variety that pediatric therapy provides and appreciates that every child brings unique strengths, challenges, personalities, and opportunities to learn.
Kaia uses a creative, play-based approach to therapy and strives to make each session fun, engaging, and meaningful for her patients. She believes children learn best when they feel comfortable, supported, and excited to participate. Her patient and encouraging approach allows her to meet children where they are while celebrating progress along the way. She also values collaboration with families and other members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure that skills developed in therapy can carry over into everyday life.
Kaia is passionate about continuing to learn and grow as a clinician. She is beginning to explore pediatric feeding as an area of interest, particularly because she recognizes the need for additional support in this area within her community. Outside of Propel, Kaia works PRN with adults, allowing her to continue expanding her clinical knowledge and experience while supporting individuals in her community. She values lifelong learning and enjoys gaining experience across different populations and settings.
Outside of work, Kaia is very family- and friend-oriented and loves spending time with the people closest to her. She enjoys traveling, crafting, cooking, and finding new adventures. She and her boyfriend, Shawn, love going on crazy adventures and finding new ways to have fun whenever they can. She especially enjoys game nights with her family, from competitive basketball games to board games around the table. Kaia is also a certified scuba diver and loves opportunities to explore, try something new, and make memories. She is grateful for the opportunity to continue growing with Propel and to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the children and families she serves each day.
